Default AT&T SIM on Sprint 8830?

I read the previous post on a Verizon phone but my question is:

what if I get the phone unlocked? I know someone who can unlock anyphone... do you think it will work? I am thinking about getting the phone unlocked I need your advise... another thing.. if I unlock the phone will it affect anything- perhaps the service? I don't know, please help!

Your Sprint 8830 is already unlocked. However, the AT&T sim card won't work in it in the US because the GSM frequency bands on the 8830 are not used in the US.

hmm, if the sprint is the same as verizon, it's not unlocked. Verizon's is locked

The Verizon Wireless 8830 is locked.

Additionally, the Sprint 8830 has full functionality of the built-in GPS, while the Verizon GPS is crippled.

These are the two main functional differences between the two devices.

Same with the new Alltel 8830 - it's unlocked and the built-in GPS works. FWIW....
