Default 8703e for sprint, questions plz help

my friend just gave me the sprint 8703e blackberry he canceled service to it. now i was wondering to get service to it using sprint can i just go down to the sprint store and ask them to put service on it or will they not do that because it already has a number? do i need to unlock it and if so how do i do that? any help is greatly appreciated

You have a very generous friend.

Assuming this is a Sprint branded 8703e (not Verizon Wireless), take the 8703e to a Sprint Store, and sign up for service of your own.
You'll need a BlackBerry Data Plan, and some type of voice plan if you want to use it for both voice and data.
You'll get a new phone number when you open your own account, or you can port an existing number from another carrier if you already have service with another provider.

You don't need to unlock the phone.
