Default GSM and GPRS

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,
I have a 7100t through T-Mobile, which is a GPRS phone. I would like to upgrade to at least an 8700. I've been looking on eBay and all of the 8700's are listed as GSM. If I purchase an unlocked 8700 that is listed as a GSM phone, will I still be able to get email and other data service? Thanks!

If you get a used BB, make sure the seller has removed all IT Policies if it had any.

Also the seller should have closed their BIS account to release the IMEI and PIN so you can set up your own email.

A third caution is to make sure the seller's account is up to date and that the phone has not been reported as lost or stolen. If any of this is on the record, all you have is a paperweight.

Ask for the IMEI and PIN so you can check it out with your carrier.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/149)

Wow!

That was useful information.

Thanks.

Yes -- by "GSM" in this case, they mean GSM as opposed to CDMA or iDen or whatever. 8700's are EDGE and GPRS devices. You can always verify full specs at Blackberry.com.
