Default Can not call on 8830 while international

I am in east Africa and bought a local SIM card. I put the card into the phone and I can see that it connected to the network. It says "Celtel" on it and I have a good signal. As per the Celtel instructions, I have tried to key in the numbers to activate it, add money to it, etc. None of the calls will connect to the network. Am I missing something on the phone setup?

Unless you got the BlackBerry unlocked you can't do that.

Sprint 8830 already has SIM unlocked. Thanks for playing...

Are you dialing the international numbers when you try and call. Since you're using the local card you have the dial all the 01100101 whatever country code.

or you could change the option under phone application where it says country code +1. change it to the local's country code. otherwise fone keeps thinking that it is still in US
