Hello,

I woke up yesterday and I realized that the scroll button no longer works as a button. Scrolling works fine, going up and down menu options etc, however the option where I push the scroll wheel in to activate the menu drop down or to select an option works maybe 1 out of 20 times.

I found that for many options I can use the enter key, however when trying to send an email to someone in my address book, I have no idea how to get the menu to appear to select email or SMS or whatever.

Does anyone know the combination of keys to bring down the menu then? It is driving me nuts and ofcourse the phone is no longer under warranty.

My other options are to open up the phone myself and see if I can do anything, and that compared ot my next option which is to drop $500 and buy a new phone, and none of the new ones seem worthwhile to drop more money on yet.

Welcome to the forums. I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and get a new device. You could check the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here to start.

On the 7100g the shortcut to compose an email is the L button (while in the Messages application). There is no shortcut for Send.

I had the same problem on a 7290 and an 8700c. I have never pulled apart a 7100, but it should be mostly the same guts. The wheels tend to gather dust bunnies. Once disassembled, I used a paper clip pull out the gunk that built up under the wheel. On the older models, the wheel was on its own PCB and I replaced a faulty one using parts from one with a broken screen.

on that model I believe you can get the part at BBrepairshop.com fairly inexpensive rather easy to replace
