New 8830 owner. How do I silence phone and message alerts while in meeting but keep receiving calls and messages to view later?

I have tried mute which does not work. There is no "quiet" option of VZW phone.

You should have an icon that looks like a speaker on the main screen. Highlight it and press enter. You should have a choice of profiles....

When you press Profiles, and can see the different profiles, scroll DOWN to advanced.

I apologize for the trouble but I cannot get to "Advanced" after clicking on Profiles. I get the In and Out of holster options. There is no quiet or advanced option present. I appreciate your attempts to assist.

The online manual mentions "Notifications" and advanced but I do not find "Notifications" either.

If you are seeing the In and Out of holster settings, you are already in advanced.

From the home screen, you click on Profiles. At that point you should be presented with 5-6 profile presets, Quiet, Vibrate, Loud, Normal, etc.

Scroll down from there to Advanced to edit any of those.

Notifications are the same as the profile settings, different terms for the same thing.

We have pictures, clicky here (ain't that cool!):

OK, we will give this one more shot.

When you select Profiles (icon looks like a speaker)

You should see

Loud
Vibrate
Quiet
Normal (Active)
Phone Only
Off

(if you just highlight Quiet and press enter it will become the active profile.

If you scroll down further you will see
Advanced...

You will then see

Loud
Vibrate
Quiet
Normal (Active)
Phone Only
Off

If you highlight the one you want to change and press Menu>Edit
You will then see the actions you can change in that profile
Highlight one say Messages - {xxxxx}
Press menu>edit

Now you will see the detail on what you can change.

I appreciate all the help. Since I could not get the screens you mentioned, I went to VZW Store which is nearby. The tech saw the same screen and then clicked on "Discard". This then allowed the screen with the aforementioned options to appear. Now I do not know how by phone is setup for in and out of holster but that is not a big issue. I wanted to post this followup in case someone else was feeling like an idiot and unable to perform the perfect advice that all have given.

My thanks to all of you and will consult you again!!

JS - What is the "Discard" that she is referencing? I have never heard of this term?

Never heard of it either, unless it is the return (arrow) key right of the trackball, which would then have taken the user to the screen with all the preset profiles... just as would have happened if the user began on the homescreen as described in post #9 above.

Glad it is working for you, bcreekski.

It was not the return arrow key. It was a screen with "red" options. I wish that I could recreate and document. At any rate, thanks for all your assistance.
