If you have disabled dialing from the home screen, tap the "k" key to lock the BlackBerry.

As long as "dial from home screen" is disabled, I believe the shortcut is "k."

You can lock it by hitting Alt-Enter ... even with dial from home screen enabled.

ALT + ENTER changes the input language on "most" BBs.

Perhaps your 8703 is different, I have never used it.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

ALT+ENTER locks the screen on my 8700g. Of course pressing K is much easier.

Y'all are correct. From the Homescreen, Alt + Enter locks.

If you are in an email and press the same, what happens?

Nothing happens for me while in an e-mail and I press that combination. I am using OS 4.2.1.101.

Actually, I don't have any other languages loaded on the unit (took them off to save space) so it may not actually do anything for me.

I thought you were right the first time.

So, alt+enter brings up language menu because I have languages package installed; but if I didn't, then alt+enter would lock the BB.... Is that what's going on?

(The alt+enter thing may explain how my language setting mysteriously changed back awhile ago.)

I thought IF you had other languages installed, and the shortcut enabled (Options > Languages) it would do so.

Ahhh, that's it. I'd forgotten or never noticed the shortcut option in language options. I disabled the short cut and alt+enter will indeed lock the BB. At least from home screen. Haven't tested other pages yet. But, cool nonetheless.

so ALT + Enter sorta a duel use shortcut, according to BB usage at that moment (at homescreen or in text box with shortcut enabled).

All those users we have drop by who are getting weird text (type "a" and getting "at at" have usually pressed ALT ENTER by mistake and changed the input language to Catala). The other common mistaken change is to Afrikaans.
