I just got off the phone with AT&T and they said that with an "Unlimited Texting and IMing" plan I can use a Blackberry phone. The aforementioned plan does not include internet and the person on the phone had no idea what the APN username/password was. I planned on using Ramble IM in order to connect to the AIM network (since I am NOT paying for IM+ or Jive Talk).

Is the person I spoke with correct in saying that I am able to connect to the AIM network WITHOUT a Blackberry data plan but with a normal "Unlimited SMS and IM" plan? If so, How am I able to connect with the network? I don't have the APN.

You can't use Ramble IM without a data plan. Ramble uses data, not sms/text. The Oz messenger app is the only one that uses sms. You have to download it from medianet and you need at least some kind of data for that.

I see. So I can't get around not having a BB Data plan then... I hear Oz Messenger kind sucks even if I COULD use it.

Pull your battery to reboot after each try (changing the setting as in the username) and see if it works afterward. The reboot "sets" the change.

Good idea! Give it the 30 day trial before you buy it to make sure it works on your plan.

I usually recommend the $29.99 purchase. Then you can move it to another device. The $19.99 version is a one device license so if you get another BB you will have to purchase it again. However, enjoy JiveTalk. It's the best IM app out there for the BB.
