Default Will I get in trouble?

A friend sold me an 8700c that fell into a glass of water. Subsequently, even when it was turned off, it would vibrate.

So he invoked the insurance. Yes, I know they aren't supposed to insure the 8700, but they slipped up and did, so they let him use it, then cancelled the "policy." He wanted to keep that one for parts, so he told them it was lost.

He recently switched to an iphone, so I bought his old 8700 (also for parts--the battery and wall charger, mainly) for $10.

Well, lo and behold, it works now. I guess whatever was making it vibrate finally dried off.

My daughter needs a phone (and some kind of organizing tool), so I'm thinking of giving her the 8700. I'm still using an 8700 that works fine.

My question is, is there any sort of code in the phone that will mark it as "lost or stolen" when I activate the SIM card I bought for my daughter? Will the system recognize the phone and send the cell police? I won't be getting her the Internet package.

There is no code 'in the phone", but AT&T could have marked the PIN/IMEI as such. Only they will know until then. But you only need the PIN/IMEI for setting up email, internet, etc., data. As far as using it as a phone, no one will know what you have the SIM stuck in.

You won't get in trouble. Pop in the SIM and go for it, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. If it does...

If you haven't done anything wrong, no need to feel guilty.

Feel free to use it in most cases ATT doesn't mark the phone when reported lost or stolen they suspend the service
