Default USB Keyboard - 10-02-2007, 11:44 AM

Hello,

Due to security restrictions at my job the bluetooth ability of my Blackberry 8703e is disabled. I cannot anywhere find a USB keyboard that is tested good with the 8703e.

Has anyone tried a USB keyboard with the 8703e to see if it will work?

I don't think USB keyboards are available for the BB. I've never seen one.

They actually have a couple of different mini USB keyboards for Blackberry's just none that have tested with the 8703e. I wonder if one would work anyway.

Buy one at a big box store like best buy, Fry's or office max, and if it doesn't work then return it. They should take it back for hardware incompatibility. I know Fry's has a "if it's incompatible, we'll take it back" policy.

YOU WILL NEED TO DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE TO YOUR BLACKBERRY IN ORDER TO USE THE COOLMIR KEYBOARD.
IF YOUR BLACKBERRY IS CONNECTED TO A BLACKBERRY ENTERPRISE SERVER (BES), THE BES ADMINISTRATOR HAS TO SETUP A SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION POLICY ON THE BES FOR THE COOLMIR SOFTWARE.
IF YOUR BLACKBERRY IS NOT CONNECTED TO A BES (FOR NON-BES USERS), YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE YOUR BLACKBERRY SOFTWARE AND THE BLACKBERRY DESKTOP MANAGER LOADED ON YOUR PC OR YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE A WEB ACCESSES ON YOUR
BLACKBERRY TO DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE OVER THE AIR (OTA).
Tested BlackBerrys :
Handheld software version 4.0 or higher BlackBerry 6210, 6220, 6230, 6280, 6510, 7100g, 7100i, 7100r, 7100t, 7100v, 7100x, 7105t, 7210, 7230, 7250, 7270, 7280, 7290, 7510, 7520, 8700c, 8700g, 8700r and 8707 .
Not compatible with:
BlackBerry 5790, 6710, 6720 and 6750.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not supported. Not NOT supported. If it has to have software installed on the Enterprise server its a nogo anyway. This guys just gonna have to use his fingers.
Here's a short review of the CoolMIR keyboard. Seems pretty overpriced for what it is though.
Mini review at Blackberrycool.com
These retailers list compatibility, etc.
A random store selling it
Another random store selling it
It sure seems like an obvious thing to want. I'm surprised RIM doesn't sell one or simply have a driver that will support a standard PC keyboard and maybe even allow a mouse to act like the trackball and mouse wheel button to act like the BB side dial. That would be cool because then someone could attach it to a KVM and just prop it up in front of a computer monitor at their desk.
