Default PlayBook touts impressive specs.

So finally RIM looks like they will release a device that is ahead of the curve or at least very close to the curve. Seems the specs are either same or better when compared to all other major players.

I wish RIM took this approach to it's mobiles as well.

Internal Storage: Unconfirmed
Expansion: Unknown
Battery: not mentioned

Besides the processor, I don't see much to get excited about as far as specs. But then specs mean squat until we see it live, in action. I will withhold judgement (and rein in my enthusiasm) until then.

why is everyone comparing specs?

its not about how fast, how many mp, etc etc etc.

its about the user interface and experience..

You can't say the device will be slow until you use it. Specs alone don't tell you how snappyxxx8482; it will be.

I agree with rambo47 and seeing how powerful the current spec is we might just end up with developers designing power hungry applications which might be too demanding for what the PlayBook has under the hood and you end up with a device which might not be able to satisfy multiple applications running at once. But again this is just my 2cent - can't say anything solid till we touch and see the device in action.

We all know that the specs of this thing throw the iPad out of the water drastically.

256 burstable RAM on the iPad compared to a whopping 1GB of RAM on the PlayBook. The iPad is running the A8 Cortex CPU and the PlayBook is running the A9 Dual Core Cortex CPU.

It will no doubt display a much greater "experience" than all other tablets on the market.

I thought the iPad was running Apple's proprietary A4 chip. Is this really equivalent to the A8 Cortex CPU?

And I would really like to know what the battery life of this thing is going to be like. I hope they squeezed a MASSIVE LiPo battery in this thing.

Apple A4 is based on the ARM processor architecture.[5] The first version released runs at 1 GHz for the iPad and contains an ARM Cortex-A8 CPU core paired with a PowerVR SGX 535 graphics processor (GPU)[3][6][7][8] built on Samsung's 45 nm process.[9] Clock speed for the units used in the iPhone 4, iPod Touch, and Apple TV's have not been revealed.
The Cortex-A8 core used in the A4 is thought to use performance enhancements developed by chip designer Intrinsity (which was subsequently acquired by Apple)[10] in collaboration with Samsung.[11] The resulting core, dubbed "Hummingbird", is able to run at far higher clock rates than other implementations while remaining fully compatible with the Cortex-A8 design provided by ARM.[12] Other performance improvements include additional L2 cache. The same Cortex-A8 CPU core used in the A4 is also used in Samsung's S5PC110A01 SoC.[13][14]
