Default Bridge Browser vs Tethering ATT - Feedback

Please Login to Remove!

I returned my PB because when I tried the bridge browser it was extremely slow. Worked great wifi but I wont be in a wifi area. I did not want to change my AT&T unlimited data plan to a tethering plan because they told me I would lose the unlimited. Please comment on the speed of the bridge browser and the speed of tethering, especially with a blackberry. Thanks

Your WiFi connection is much faster than the AT&T 3G connection. Has nothing to do with the PB or Bridge.

True, but the bridge is very, very slow for some -- as in broken slow -- right now. For me, it was fine with the .1710 OS version, but not with the current mass released version .1868. And this is even when the smartphone is connected on wifi.

At the OP, I suspect if you had held on for an OS update you would have been happy.

It does have something to do with Bridge. While a WiFi connection is generally faster than a 3G connection, there are significant issues with the Bridge Browser that impact performance. In other words, performance isn't too bad when tethered via BlueTooth to a BlackBerry phone on 3G, but when Bridged to the same phone, performance suffers significantly.

Im not too sure about the speed but someone pls confirm. Tethering and bridging on BB to PB should be the same speed so the only difference would be that bridging doesnt require a extra data plan. Its just like browsing on your BB but visualizing on the PB.

Thats my point. It is not the same. The bridge browser sucks, very slow, almost un-usable. I would like someone thats tethering (without the bridge) to talk about the speed of the browser compared to Wifi. Thanks

tether is slower than wifi unless you have a 4g device to speed it up.

Sototoro, the speed of the bridge browser seems to be back to normal with PlayBook OS 1.0.5. My BlackBerry smartphone is 9700/5.0.0.714.
