Sadly, that's all. If i could get ahold of hte update and de-construct it, i bet we'd see a lot more internal changes for BIS/BES connectivity; the pieces are starting to be rolled out for wider-scale testing.

Don't forget, data to most applications is now availible across the bridge.

The much I would like to have wonderful new features, if this update really fixes the bridge problems and the Wifi dropouts, this is better then new features, and leaving old problem for the next major version.

I thought we would see a PB update when I woke up this moringing and AppWorld greeted me with a Bridge update.

Andoroid icon is still there, but it keeps failing.

This update allows the use of Bridge capabilities with MOST [if not all] PB apps. This is a huge boost in PB versatility, at least for BlackBerry phone users.

I want to say 'too bad' about the Android thing, but I regard the PB's potential Android capabilities to be a big backward step away from the development of native PB apps, so never mind.

I have not seen anything new regarding the bridge functionality.

However, for the first time, the playbook is able to playback a wmv9 stream without stopping every 15 seconds. I tried 4 different files now, and no stops.
If this proves to be true this also is a step forward.

Turned off WIFI and I can use all data apps except Appworld through bridge. Huge plus!

Thats good and bad. I was really hoping App World would work through the bridge. I guess we'll have to wait another couple of months for the next OS update.

I sorta think we'll see another update in the next 30 days, soon with the native PB PIM support.

I makes sense, that appworld does not work over the bridge connection. Consider that someone tries to grab a 100MB upgrade package for some Game over the bridge connection instead of Wifi direct. Even, if this will work, it might take forever depending on the current connection of the Blackberry, and even worse if might cost the Blackberry user some $$$ depending on the contract with the wireless provider.

It may also be more trouble than it is worth to try to differentiate between a PlayBook accessing AppWorld via the Bridge and the BlackBerry accessing AppWorld itself.

What? That makes no sense as your implying that all blackberry users are born stupid! Users should have the choice to use App World over their bridge or wifi connection if their phone device is on a crapy network but their have access to a decent wireless network then they have the choice which to use.

3 to 4Mb/sec over 3 and 4G networks isn't bad. I have a 3Meg internet connection at home (thats 3Meg/800kpbs); 3G's networks are 3.1Mb/sec up and download.

Their not really stupid, just dont know any better of what everything does.

My wife was charged 20 buck for MMS pictures since she had a text only plan. she still does not understand the charges and claims it was a text message. how do pics become text i ask her......

I dont know whats better - giving the user maximum freedom or, not, both has its advantages.
IMO a little protection is good. Especially in Europe. From most locations it is only a 3hr drive to the next point where you are have to face roaming charges from $3 to $12 per Megabyte.
upgrading to this version was 70mb. now, think again.

i dont think the playbook can know, what kind of connection currently is selected. And is is impossible that it knows about the current tariff, the user is using.

there could also be other reasons why the appworld does not work:
the rim datat network is rather optimized for sennding small chunks of data then streaming megabytes. dont know, if maybe the infrastructure has to be overhauled to permit large downloads through the rim servers.

but also this is pure speculation, i just try to make a sense out of the fact, that everything is working but not the appworld.

Android Player dead for me as well. I tried removing it and the file structure and then reinstalling from scratch. No joy. :( I didn't really use it, but it was fun to mess with.
