I'm looking at buying a Playbook for work, we have a BES and want integrate it when the new BBX software comes out. Here's my question, are we going to be able to upgrade our current Playbooks to BBX or are we going to be required to purchase a new model? If the later, then I'll wait.

Whatever RIM calls the next version of the PlayBook OS, current owners will be able to upgrade to it, at no cost.

The BBX software for RIM's handheld devices will be based on the QNX software which is used currently in the PlayBook. It is the case of the handhelds catching up to the PlayBook. I understand that OS 2 for the PlayBook is already out in beta and is obviusly working with current PlayBooks, with the expectation that it will be "live" in first quarter 2012.
It is almost quaranteed that the BBX software will not work with existing handhelds. OS 7 does not work with any handhelds except the latest models. There is good reason to wait to buy new handhelds until BBX is introduced. But I would not hold off buying a PlayBook.
