Question External display number of colors

Please Login to Remove!

When I connect the PB to an external Display in mirror mode, 1080p resolution, it looks like that the colorspace is not 24bit, rather like 15 or 16bit.

How many colors are supported on an external Display ?

The claim is it supports high resolution. Maybe the device your connecting is the culpret.

Reality check:
connect your PB to a monitor or TV via a micro HDMI to HDMI cable.
set your PB to mirror mode (default)
look at the background picture:
in the PB screen the color gradient from blue to red has no stripes.
on my TV, there are stripes. Look at the icon of the browser and compare this to the icon displayed on the PB screen.

I have not checked what happens if you set the display mode to presentation, because, if I watch a movie which is rendered using flash you cant use the presentation mode. Therefore the external display is blank in this situation.

But, in mirror mode the difference is obvious. Just go into the PB settings application and, look at the brown bar on the left side, compare that to what you see on the TV/Monitor.

I must admit, I am not 100% sure what the problem is here. I tried some test patterns, and these look ok - no visible banding.
But any video I play using flash in the browser looks like someone set the contrast level to a value much to high. The same video played back on my normal Desktop looks fine.
Also the background picture of the playbook looks different on the monitor. It has a shift to pink.
I found a review where some guy wrote the Playbook only has 16K color. But in the official PDF on the RIM site there is nothing about the colordepth of the display.

Seems I have to do more testing on that subject.

Post back on what you find and the noise about 2.0 is building.
