Secure wipe (eg "De-brick") or reset your password to see if it will ask you to reenter your password.
Sadly this sounds like the issue I have on my PB. Mine is more of a "playbook all of a sudden shuts off and battery claims to be 0%" but after this happens I can no longer authenticate with AppWorld.
return the open box product and buy a brand new one... I have a feeling there had to have been some major manufacturing issues at some point.
