I have a suggestion for RIM that would help to win the BlackPad some market share.

It seems that a lot of people want more Android 'apps' on the BlackPad than may have become available with the latest update. I have read numerous postings on other sites and articles in the press that say words to the effect - "Too little too late." and bemoan the lack of tens of thousands of 'apps'. ( I am not quite sure what people actually do with tens of thousands of 'apps', but that would be the topic of an entirely different post).

BlackBerry is encouraging the people who write these 'apps' to port them to the BB system. However, the reality is that there is no incentive for them to do so as so few BlackPads have been sold to date ( at least in comparison to other tablet manufacturers). So, here is my suggestion;

Hire a couple of guys for $80K apiece and task them to hunt down the owners of every Android app and offer to write the necessary programme to port their 'app' to BlackBerry for FREE. It would be a classic 'win-win'. The owners get their 'apps' exposed to an entirely new audience and RIM addresses the, supposed, lack of 'apps' issue.

It would be the best $150K Rim has spent in a long, long time.

For the love of any higher being, please stop calling it the Blackpad.

Also, this site is in no way affiliated with RIM.

This would be so much more effective than providing tools that, for roughly 60% of applications in the App Market, take an APK and produce a BAR. Or the staff at the last two DevCons who would walk an Android app through the porting, approval deployment process. Or the dev get togethers happening here and there where they will do the same thing. The process is so easy in fact that people who aren't programmers download the dev tools, get an APK they want off an Android phone, convert it and "side load" to their PlayBooks. In theory this will work for the Blackpad as well, but you need the leaked developer tools from two years ago.

"Oh, by the way a couple of guys @$80K would be $160K...."

$150K Canadian dollars. $160K American.

"Also, this site is in no way affiliated with RIM."

Do you think for a second that RIM does not troll the internet for any mention of their name, especially on sites dedicated to their product? Welcome to the 21'st century.

"What's a BlackPad?"

BlackPad was the in-house name given to the tablet project while under development. Certainly surperior to "PlayBook" except to the public school age demographic where "play" anything is viewed as the intellectual high ground.

Nobody gives a rat's blue bottom what it was called internally. It's a PlayBook.

I'm trying to pair my BlackPad to my Charm but it isn't working. I'll try the Gemini and Kickstart later. Internal code names for the 7100, 8500 and 8220/8230.

No one cares about them either.

You do realize that RIM has their own support forums, right?! I mean, I assume you would considering you still go by pointless codenames given to devices.

So why don't you post your pointless rhetoric over there?

Or on the beta site. There is a program there where they will accept constructive criticism and the mods will distribute it to the appropriate teams. There have already been a couple of long and thoughtful posts with suggestions that have been submitted.

Wow,

First off, $80K + $80K = $160K (regardless of if it's CAD or USD)
Secondly,
On February 24, 2012, 160,000.00 Canadian Dollar(s) = 160,192.23 U.S. dollar(s), at an exchange rate of 1.0012 (using nominal rate).
Bank of Canada - Daily Currency Converter

So where you got that $150K Canadian Dollars is $160K American I'll have no idea.

Thanks for playing,
