Do you have WiFi turned off? When you connect, do you see a small window in the top right (Loading Drivers)? Does it even show up as connected under devices (in Windows?)
Have you tried going to the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and closing all RIM related services and processes? Then run Desktop Manager again and connect your PB.
