Happened Again! Failure of Z10 to Sync
I posted several times about this issue several months ago in the spring of 2014. New BB Z10 at that time refused to sync Outlook Calendar and Contacts after a BB Link upgrade, with BB Link showing a "Sync was unsuccessful" message after every attempt. My solution was to re-install and older version of BB Link that I had (thankfully) saved from late 2013. All was working well until a few days ago when the Z10 once-again began to fail to synchronize via BB Link. Nothing was changed, no software updates performed, etc. It just stopped synchronizing again for no apparent reason.


I figured I'd give a try to installing the latest Z10 OS upgrade and also uninstall and then reinstall the latest BB Link version (having backed up the device beforehand). Still showing sync failure after every attempt.

Any ideas? The number-one reason I ever started using BB many yeas ago was the ability to sync my Outlook calendar and contacts to my device. My ultimate frustration is not having this work properly. It's essential for my business! there ANY way to get support directly from RIM? My carrier is T-Mobile, which infamously dropped BB altogether, so they are not a source of help.

If anyone has a clue, I'd sure appreciate your assistance.:x

AhHa! Update....

I kept attempting syncs while changing different things, and found that if both "Contacts" and "Calendar" choices are checked in BB Link, syncs continue to be unsuccessful. However, if I uncheck the "Contacts" choice in BB Link, my Outlook Calendar will sync! However, if the "Contacts" choice is checked and the "Calendar" choice is unchecked, contacts still won't sink. So....

Looks like there's an issue with my Outlook Contacts synchronizing. Any ideas now that I explained that phenomenon?

Interesting discovery: I found that by unchecking "Contacts" before attempting a synchronization, the Z10 would, indeed, update the calendar! However, unchecking "Calendar" and checking "Contacts" always results in a failure to sync the contacts.


Does anyone have an idea of what's happening here? I suppose it could be a corruption somewhere in the Outlook Contacts file, but if does one fix that?:-(

can you move your contacts to a different folder in outlook and then move them back in?

Older BB's had sync issues with corrupted databases.
Sounds like you have the same issue.
I sync my Z10 without any issues.

Newly Discovered!!Re: Happened Again! Failure of Z10 to Sync
After a lot of fooling around with all sorts of stunts in an attempt to figure out what has been happening, I discovered something that surprised me AND solved the problem....I think.

When given the option to sync "contacts" or "calendar," I checked the "calendar" box and UN-checked "contacts," and guess what? The calendar then synchronized just fine!


I then UN-checked "calendar" and checked the "contacts" option box to only sync contacts, and also chose the "notify me when there are conflicts" options. Wow, was I surprised! Nearly every contact showed a conflict, so I threw caution to the wind and proceeded with the sync using my computer data. What happened? Many of the photos that were on the Z10 disappeared. Those photos were the results of whatever the Z10 does when it syncs the photos of my contacts what have Facebook accounts. I hate that! I suppose that when one installs FB on the Z10, it defaults to linking FB accounts with the contacts. Don't like that at all, and I believed I been able to disable that.


It appears as thought I'm syncing contacts and calendar properly again. I would not that I haven't tried to sync both contacts and calendar simultaneously, which is possible. I'll give that a shot and try to post an update if anything goes awry.

The moral of the story: if you're getting "sync unsuccessful" error messages, try synchronizing only the calendar, and then try synchronizing only the contacts. That may narrow down the source of the problem.
