It's the holidays...I'm sure things are pretty hectic (for HaTax and his co-worker).

It is hectic....

Thanks for the understanding and patience, it seems my co-worker with the 7130 took off for the holiday Wed afternoon.....

BUT! I did grab someone with it installed on his 7100i. The versions should be almost identical and both should work with the 8100 fine as long as you have your bluetooth puck setup under Options -> Advanced Settings -> GPS on your device options.

Here's the link to the 7100i files, let me know how they work!

Mapquest_navigator.alx and the other file (doesn't have an extension) - app_prod_mapquest_navigator_bb7100i are pretty huge...together they total 4 MB!

Do I need to rename the second file w/a .cod extension?

Edit: I guess not, it appeared to load from DM OK.

Before use, down to 9.1 MB from 13 or so last time I checked, and that includes removing nuTsie!

After a reboot (and removed AmAzeGPS (400k) I was back up to 14 MB...ran Mapquest, still at 14 MB. Ran it again and calculated a route, still at 14 MB.

So I'm a bit confused as to what's going on with memory...but happy! Happy, happy, happy!!

So cool! I can't get out on the road right now, but loads, runs, calculates directions, and talks!

My inner geek is very happy...

Thanks, HaTax...a nice holiday present you've provided.

Glad to hear it worked out for those that have tried it!

I use the application alot and it always seems to have up to date information. It's quick, no errors I've seen with it yet, and best of all, free.

Danabw, remember that the GPS on your phone may be application locked, kpdillon has sprint and they allow the use of the GPS with 3rd party applications, but I think Verizon is still locking theirs down.

Ohh, and Merry Christmas! It's nice to be able to provide a little something for those in the BB community around this time of year.

Yup...I'm locked down on the GPS on the phone to only use VZWNav, but I'm using my new Freedom 2000 GPS BT puck. It is SO cool...tiny, fast, and accurate. That, combined w/your post, are my two favorite Christmas presents...period!

Hopefully come next year when Verizon starts it's any device push, you'll be able to update the software on your device and use the internal GPS.

It's a long shot, but you have to keep looking for the light.

My good friend is a store manager at Verizon and I always make sure I show him the free alternatives to VZ Navigator... Hehe, he always laughs at first, but then keeps asking what the monthly cost is....

I hope they (VZW) see the light at some point...fingers crossed. Though the Freedom 2000 is so small that I carry it on my keychain, so I don't really notice that I'm not using the phone's GPS.

I had a chance to give the Mapquest a spin tonight...my very patient family let me mapquest us to and from dinner. It was great, just great.

Took us via the route we actually like to use, not the obvious way, but the best way and mapquest picked it. We went off the route a couple of times and it very quickly re-routed us accurately and smoothly.

The only problems we had were that it couldn't find the restaurant by name, I had to navigate to a theater nearby on the way there, and then set a GPS point and match that to an address (nice feature!) that we mapped back from.

One thing I haven't found...is there a way to get Mapquest to display a list of the directions? I couldn't find that.

I love the night mode, where it turns all the colors to dark, so you aren't blinded by the display but can still see everything clearly.

If the pay version is like this it's defintely worth the $5 a month if you have a need for GPS regularly! I (unfortunately?) don't need GPS very often...so I'll be subjecting my family to using for going to and from the local sites for the most part. ;)

Thanks again!

Danabw - Not sure why this is but if you install the first one Hatax posted, it gives you the street by street guide but since it shows it in wide screen you miss out on about 25% of the stuff to the right.

I wonder why the 7100 version doesn't display the street by street directions...

Uhoh, might be a weakness of the 7100 because it's not powerful enough.

Rest assured, I'll grab the 7130 version as well after the holidays, think of it as an upgrade for being good.

I *think* the 7130 does do street directions as my 8320 does...

Well, I'm a day late, but not a dollar short. I just saw this coworker for the first time in about a month now and I got the 7130e version for you all.
