Default GPS bluetooth question - 02-18-2008, 02:55 PM

Ok, so I'm very new at this (remember that in your replies ).

I have a blackberry pearl 8100 and a holux bluetooth GPS unit. I do not use the pearl for anything but the phone really, and I have a question about the map/gps function. I know that if I turn off the wireless capability of the phone, I can still browse the maps (that came loaded on the pearl). So when I pair the pearl with the Holux (the phone is obviously on), will I end up paying for extra data transfer when coupled with the GPS unit? My plan only covers phone useage, and I'm not sure if using the maps function while connected by bluetooth to the Holux GPS will cost extra due to data being transferred. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Data usage occurs when your GPS app pulls data from the wireless network.

Bluetooth data transfer and acquiring your GPS position from the satellites do not use BB data.

There are no maps stored on your device. It's all pulled from the network as Takeshi said. GPS is not worth much without a data plan.

How come i can still view the maps when i turn the wireless signal off? I know there is no gps signal then, but the maps are still visible and manipulatable. Although, when I try to get directions, it is unable to do so. but the maps are still there...
