BlackStar will use your internal or Bluetooth GPS receiver, the same way Telnav would use it.

What error are you getting? Is it during the install, or after?

I've been using WinLiveSearch for BB for a day and it's a great find for a free app. Set your location to GPS and you can even track yourself. Listing are excellent. If Beyond411 is giving you trouble, this is an excellent alternative; in fact, better. Lacks only white pages.

Default GPSed for BlackBerry Storm appeared! - 02-02-2009, 07:51 AM

A special version of GPSed mobile application for BlackBerry Storm appeared!

Now Storm owners could also track and map their trips using GPSed.
All features that you have already got accustomed to use in GPSed for other BlackBerry devices you will find in a Storm version.

From this moment there are two versions of GPSed for BlackBerry available: standard version for for those devices with 4.2., 4.3., 4.5., 4.6 OS and special version for Storm (4.7 OS). In the recent update of a standart version 1.2.1 several bug fixes were implemented.

GPSed has a free basic version but you can also get GPSed Pro with a new features which make it really efficient.

For those who are interested: Pro features are described in GPSed Blog:
  • Lifetime support via e-mail;
  • “SOS” button for instant position alerts over SMS or email;
  • Live tracking with small time intervals.

You can get over-the-air installation on your device from GPSed wap site.
To download desktop installation you can visit website of GPSed.

Hey guys,

For Mobile GMaps and TrekBuddy...does the blackberry have to be GPS enabled or can these apps be installed on non-gps blackberry devices like the Curve 8320?

Thanks

Ok agree with you but are you tell me that only the following can be used

Mobile GMaps
Downloadable maps

TrekBuddy
Downloaded maps

So you cannot get like the concept of TOMTOM on WM6 with NO NEED for internet.

The reason I ask is becuause I will be in Spain and I will not be able to use the internet there

Those are the of which I am aware. Others could posted in thos GPS section if you search.
But either way you will be required to download the maps prior which is what you are asking. The maps must get on your BlackBerry somehow.

Yes I agree with you... The maps need to get on the blackberry somehow but I do not want the maps to depend on a internet conneciton.

So in a nut shell we do not have anything which is simular to tomtom, garmin which allows a user to download the maps ONCE via internet or USB, but there after dose NOT requier the internet, (Unless you need new maps).

I just need to make sure.

Thank you

FYI

Question: Where do I install the detailed maps on my Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry?

Answer:
With Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry, detailed maps do not need to be installed to the device itself. The maps reside on Garmin servers and the BlackBerry device will download the maps it needs. The only software that needs to be installed is the Garmin Mobile application. This application will be sent to the phone through a link once the Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry service is activated.

I gotta say I really like MoosTrax for tracking. Simple, clean. Web interface for reports. Chris Moos did a great job on it. Sits quietly in your Options and never bothers you nor requires any attention.

I even used it recently to find my wife's Bberry when she misplaced it!

I also like GPsed for basic GPS info. And Nav4All for getting around strange places.

my 2 cents....

Default Navfun pro - 07-11-2009, 10:07 PM

I just installed Navfun pro on my 8320.
It can use locally stored maps, the same way as MGmaps, and you can import tracks, including GPX files exported from Geochache Swiss Army Knife (gsak).
It seems like a decent tool for Geocachers, since you can use it paired with cacheberry, which has no map of its own, and relies on OTA BBmaps and Googlemaps.

I had to install the .jar file directly from the developer, because the .jad would not work.
It keeps asking permission every time it loads new map tiles, but otherwise, works ok.

Doesn't look like anyone has answered this, so I will.
I have an 8320 and have loaded and tried every free GPS program I could find, including GMaps, and TrekBuddy, which both work fine. Trekbuddy doesn't seem to have any zoom function, so I haven't played with it much. If you get yourself a dashboard or keychain GPS bluetooth receiver, you can use it with your 8320 and Gmaps, BBmaps, Trekbuddy, Googlemaps, and every other program I have tried.
PS. I'm also on Rogers.

I'm actually preferring this new Gokivo app in Blackberry App World - it seems better and stable in my eyes compared to the others.

Default SportyPal - 07-29-2009, 05:20 AM

SportyPal is an easy to use application that uses the GPS function on your BB to track your movement during your training(running, cycling, walking or similar activity). It will log the performance and present a summary of your workout with a map of where you went. Once you finish the exercise you can uploaded it to your web account at sportypal.com where you can see further analysis and share the exercise with your friends.

Default new Compass Lite released - 08-01-2009, 10:28 AM

We have a new full-screen Compass for the Storm. We decided to do 2 versions: a ‘Lite’ version with basic functionality for a low, low price and, in a couple of months, an ‘Enhanced’ version with many more features.
We released the Compass Lite today. Here’s the blurb:

This wonderful 'Ancient Mariner' compass uses the built-in GPS in the device to show your line of travel, speed, latitude and longitude and where North is in relation to your heading. To establish a line of travel, you must be moving.

You can see more on our website at blueinc.ca

Please reveiw and post to your list. [Good job, BTW]

cheers...B

You could try bigbrotherme.co.nz. Although it's NZ based it works anywhere in the world as the timestamps are based on your phone time.

It's free to use unless you want more advanced features. Although it has no front end it just works away in the background.
