2 and a half years ago, when this thread was started, there was barely more than a handful of GPS apps for the BlackBerry.

To expect, or even ask, JSanders to update that post and bring it current is simply ludicrous.
There's literally hundreds of location based applications available for the BlackBerry now, and it wouldn't be feasible to continually update them in a forum thread.

Look in App World if you want a current list of GPS and mapping applications.
There's a category for it.

I've recently written an app, GPS Find, that can be used for geocaching and other GPS based outdoor activities. It has a wind rose style compass, waypoint management, and a import function that understands .kml, .gpx and .loc files.

Well have also a look at another unique Offline-Mapping GPS Tool

Appworld -> Navigation -> Nogago

Nogago has been developed further to support offline map and offline routing.

newbie here
I have a 8830 world edition (unlocked, no carrier) that I bought on ebay.
being new to blackberry's I did not know the gps is locked to 3rd party apps on the 8830's with verizon. even though it's unlocked it still boots up to verizon thus locking the gps.
I bought the phone just to use it for the gps with the free app "freecaddie) on the golf course.
if there's no one out there that can help me release the gps I have a slightly used 8830 world edition for sale.

Just wanted to add a GPS tracking application to the list. I've found it very accurate and easy to use. Not to mention quite cheap ( £6.99 )Anyone looking for a GPS tracking Application I would highly recommended.

Just come across a great new blackberry app on Appworld. its called MyNGR, its FREE and gives 6, 8 or 10 figure NGR's together with proper height above sea level.

Any chance of updating the first post of the thread?

BlackBerry Traffic is free in App World for US and Canada. It has turn by turn Voice navigation and works very well.

Is turn-by-turn voice navigation new? When I was using BB Traffic, I never found that option.

The voice directions are new with version 3.0. Works pretty good.

I hope one day they'll release it for the rest of the world (especially for markets where the BB market share is actually increasing!) :(
