Default Unable to setup GPS on Blackberry 8880 - 05-01-2008, 06:20 AM

Hello everyone

I'm at my wits end with my Blackberry 8880. I've got Blackberry Maps installed on the device and got capitol GRPS, correct APNs etc...

The BB is using BES.

But for some reason the phone will simply not correct to GPS.

Oddly I've checked the GPS settings under Options > Adv Options > GPS and the SatNav seems to be working because Fix time updates and it has 5 Sats and also has Lat and Long locations.

HOWEVER... it doesn't seem to have the option GPS Data Source... See attached image. The GPS Data Source simply doesn't exist! All the other options are there however as normal.

I have a feeling this is a the reason its not working, I have another BB 8880 which has that option available, and its set to Device GPS and its working fine.

Why is this option missing? Is there something wrong with my BB OS? I have V4.2.1.73 - latest from the O2 site. Also I do have Location (GPS) set to Allow on the Permissions screen.

Help!

are you referring to the 8800 or the 8820? the 8820 has a newer OS v4.2.2

you've also mentioned a BES account. it would be possible that your BES administrator has enabled an IT Policy on your device to only have certain features working and others not. It would be best to contact your BES administrator and speak with him/her about this.

When you turn on your phone, does it return the favor? Welcome to BlackBerry!

Hi,

Yes I didn't think of that, so I checked and found that the 3rd party who provide the BES had a policy to disable GPS functions on phones for some reason. This has now been resolved. Thanks
