Default Travel Channel GO - 06-25-2008, 01:35 PM

I'm not sure if anyone else here knows about it or not, so I thought I'd let you all know. You can check it out at Travel Channel GO.

I've only toyed with it a little, but here's my two cents. The interface is pretty and it's useful for finding things in an unknown area. However, the data seems a bit outdated. I looked for steakhouses near my home and found one that has been closed for at least 3 years. I also found a Pizza Hut that has been closed for almost 5 years. If they can get some better data, they might be on to something. In all fairness, Berry 411 found the same bogus Pizza Hut, but did not turn up the bogus steakhouse.

Anyway, I'm curious to know if it's this inaccurate elsewhere. I might just use this when I travel. I'm always looking for a good steak on the client's dime.

Well this app looked promising to me. Using an ATT 8310 it wouldn't connect to the GPS. This was in a full EDGE area with clear skies. I was also connected to 5 sats. Kind of a letdown.

Before you get too bummed, try this: on the main TC GO screen, press the 'Set My Location' bar. Click on the GPS choice, no matter if it refers to internal or accessory. Now go back to the home screen & the little GPS indicator square should be yellow - or green, if you already have a fix. Whenever it's red, the app is waiting for you to choose how to pick where you are.

i have a Sprimt 8830, and it seems to take forever. On my tmobile Curve, using a bluetooth Gps, it snapped right on. Go figure!

I did choose the GPS to set location, it stayed yellow for ten minutes. On top of that it continues to say I am in Chicago, which wouldn't be a problem. If I was in Chicago...

Thanks, I will try playing around with it again later.

GoogleMaps works just fine for me. But with my buddies the tracker option is interesting.

Tried it again this afternoon, after 30 minutes it finally worked with GPS. Not great, but not bad enough to delete the app either.

The default GPS refresh is 10 minutes. Set it to one. It's under the 'Personal' tab. Don't forget to scroll down & hit the Save.

Yea I saw that option. Just a shame the startup is so slow.

I had the same behavior - not getting a GPS fix. I'll try to set it for 1 minute and see but it should connect immediately on startup....and I don't understand why it doesn't find GPS immediately. I tried gmaps and it connected immediately and reported my location to 6 meters then I switched to Travelchannel go and it didn't connect to gps before I had to go into a building - about 15 minutes outside.....and in the open.

They have updated their list of BB Devices and it now recognizes the Curve 8330 and lets you download the application.

Wirelessly posted (Curve 8330)

Here is a direct download link that works for the 8330:

Cheers.

After playing with it for a week or so, I have deleted it from my BB. Performance is slow and the information returned not very accurate.

I deleted it from mine as well. It looked promising, but it just didn't perform. If they put a little work into it, maybe it will find it's way back onto my Curve but for now it's just history.
