Default Google Maps 2.3.1: Now with Street View and Walking Directions - 09-17-2008, 11:53 AM

and also voice command options. Also it seems the "My location" feature is more accurate (smaller radius). It got my location down to 500 meters, which is way better than the 1500+meters in the old version.

Getting it now... but what's with the 1500 or 500 meter accuracy for 'my location'? I routinely get it down to 3 meters...

UPDATE: Got it... interesting look... new icons... still no voice search... :(

:(
Google maps uses cell tower triangulation if there is no GPS (built-on or puck). Accuracy is less (I'v e seen it in upwards of 1500 meters) with triangulation. Looking at his model number, if he is not using a BT GPS puck, his location accuracy is always going be in ~1000s of meters.

No more permission issues that resulted in the dreaded hang at start up!

Sweet........

Yep, with a new icon... that does not match.

A couple new features though, with street view and couple of other "stuff".. but the big part is that it actually links up with the GPS receiver now.

I actually like the new icon but wish it was a better resolution on the Bold.

It's always been that way for me. When I launch it, it starts with a cell tower and an accuracy of ~ 1000 meters... but within seconds, it zooms right in on my location to within 3 meters. I've never had to wait more than 30-45 seconds to get the GPS fix.

My phone has a built-in GPS; but the accuracy is in ~1000 meters as long as I'm inside my office building. Once I get out, it gets the GPS fix and then the accuracy changes to within 3 meters. Looks like you are always in an area that has good satellite reception.

Downloaded the new app. Looks good so far. I like the new icon too. Will put it to test on my way back home.

It looked like a very nice improvement when I upgraded my girlfriend's BB with it! Now I just need a new BB to use it with...

Yeah the reason I get 1500 and 500 meters is because I don't use a GPS puck, so I just use the cell tower triangulation.

Why was this moved from the 3rd party App section to the BB Bold Discussion section? Makes no sense this update is for all BB Models.

i have the same problem. the only thing i can do is delete the app from my "downloads" folder on my blackberry bold, then the OS asks to reboot etc. when i reboot the phone asks all questions as a first time installation, but all my settings are saved. done it twice now, twice had the same results. will try just once more.

In my case, it asked to reboot and I said, "Later"... after which it hung.

Once I rebooted it worked fine.
