Default Google Maps 2.3.1 won't access my BT GPS puck! What about you?!

Please Login to Remove!

This is on a Verizon Pearl 8130 w/OS 4.5.0.77, and a Freedom Keychain GPS puck.

I am unable to get Google Maps 2.3.1 to access my the GPS puck.

Windows Live Search (WLS) and Verizon Nav can both access my puck fine to get a location fix.

Also, if I open WLS and let it get a fix, and then leave WLS open and start Google Maps then Google Maps can map my exact (within 3 meters) location right away.

If I open Google Maps by itself it says GPS is temporarily unavailable...but it never actually starts up the BT connection w/the puck (blue BT light on my Pearl does not blink) and only does cell tower triangulation (my location within 1200 to 2500 meters).

It's very odd...the BT puck settings are obviously correct, since WLS and Verizon Nav access it just fine.

Older versions of Google Maps on 4.3 OS could access my BT puck. I don't remember trying older versions of Google Maps on OS 4.5 (I may not have, I don't use GPS navigation very often).

Anyone else on OS 4.5 having this problem w/Google Maps - version 2.3.1 or previous versions?

Thanks!

As I said in some other threads I have to first turn on BB maps, Start GPS Navigation, and then turn on Google Maps. I have been told that there is a bug that prevents Google maps from polling the bluetooth connection. I have tried to see if a permissive is not in the right state but so far have not found anything. So to use Google Maps I first turn on BB maps to get the puck polled.

Anyone else have a better solution?

Thanks...it helps to know that this probably isn't a "just me" issue.

Are you on OS 4.5 yet?

(Like your "PIN." Funny, funny guys....)

Nope, I will wait until VZW officially puts it out and then I will wait a bit to make sure it is not buggy.

Supposed to come out next week...I'm expecting it to be the same version I'm running - 4.5.0.77, but we'll see.

If you're waiting for a non-buggy version of a RIM OS you'll be waiting for a while... ;)

I figure I will wait a few weeks and see if anything drastic has changed. Always concerned that VZW will find a way of disabling pucks.

I doubt it...but if you're worried, why not just install the Cellular South .77 version? Using my puck w/no issues (aside from Google Maps). :D

How can I install downgrade to the previous version of the Google Maps? I have the same issue. The previous version worked well on my 8320.

I have 4.2 and the new Google Maps will work and then disconnect. The only way WLS any other program to work and read my freedom puck is to deinstall google map. This is my second install, and though I like the new Google, Its not compatible. The older version worked just fine.
