Default Problems with GPS location sometimes not accurate? - 08-18-2009, 03:40 AM

Hi,

I've been writing some code for the GPS functionality of the Blackberry Pearl and have noticed that sometimes my positional coordinates received are way off. Most of the time the positions are pretty accurate, but sometimes the point will just shoot off into the middle of nowhere and the next one will be right again.

I'm checking the IsValid() state of the location object received from the locationlistener locationupdated() function and am only collecting the data if it is valid.

Has anyone ever encountered this before. I've looked on the threads for something like this but can't seem to find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

The accuracy depends on how many satellites you have and the status of selective availability for your area. The more sats in view, the more refined the position becomes.

If you use GoogleMaps for map data, the initial fix is made using cell tower data (triangulation) until satellite data is available.
