Unhappy Non GPS traker for my 8700c - 08-19-2009, 11:55 PM

Hey, I have an 8700c running on OS 4.5. Currently I use google maps to show my location. I have tried other applications but they want me to have a GPS.
I need an Application, unlike gmaps, that can keep a record of my movement or warn me if I reach some marked points

The only other option that might work is triangulating from cell towers. But that is hugely inaccurate. Why not buy a bluetooth GPS receiver or something? Unless of course the 8700 does not have bluetooth - not being expert I don't know. You can find GPS receivers pretty cheaply. I bought a Garmin GPS 10X for $50, and there are even less expensive receivers available.

I wouldn't bother without a BT GPS receiver for the reason MikeLip has already mentioned. I've seen triangulation off by 2100 meters or so. There's no way a tracking app could be of any use with inaccuracies like that.
