Default New Google Maps, GPS, and backlight

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all, First BBforum post, so bear with me.

Just got GoogleMaps 4.0.1 for my Curve 8530. I am pleased to report that GPS tracking finally works!

Of course it will never be as good as spoken turn-by-turn GPS for driving, but it is free and has a lot of accessible info.

I've seen a lot of people complain about the backlight turning off. If you are moving and have centered the location on yourself (press 0) it won't turn off. For stop-and-go trips, set the timeout to 2 minutes and you should be OK. If you are still unsatisfied, there are 3rd party apps that keep the backlight on.

My phone didn't come with a car charger. I am pleased to see that you can get one on Ebay for around $5 plus shipping.

So, does anyone have a better, free, alternative to GoogleMaps for GPS in the car?

In my storm2 this was working with older version of google maps. But its weird and still is.
If I'm charging the phone it will usually dim the screen, also it will keep backlighting some of the times even when I go over my location

Anyway this is my main GPS right now. And voice search work decently too
