Default GPS and the 8800 - 12-06-2006, 07:46 AM

Ok so now the thought is it won't have it. That's not good. To me that would be a major upgrade reason for alot of people. Anybody else have info.

It is a major reason for me. Some insight would be helpful.

It's a must-have for me. If the 8800 doesn't come with it, I'll have to go with one of the competitors that does.

That would be the only reason for me to switch.

I thought I was alone for a while. I remember hearing in the beginning that the 8800 would have GPS. Lately I haven't heard any mention of there being GPS. I was REALLY looking foward to that. I want to know as well as everyone if the GPS is officially out of the picture.

Wow, should RIM do that it woud be devistating to many who are holding for it because of the GPS reciever and the WIFI. I know I am disapointed if that is not there and the main reason is so i can be using my BT headset at the same time.

They seem to be pushing bit for teh telenav now. However, they can't seem to supply thier stores witht eh GPS pucks they keep on handing them with one or 2 every month. Plus the price of $99 for the module seems to be cheapest of any selller. I would hope that tehy do think of having the units to have GPS receiver integrated in them. Thta is too bad that they have none in the pipe line.

I know things are constantly changing especially with pre-release devices. But I am holding out that Boy Genius's posting on the 8800 holds true for it to have the embedded GPS.

BG did not answer when I asked which I take as a no and if the Gecko doesn't have reports that should tell you.

Ok I will accept your source but clarify - actual GPS chip built in, and not just ability to connect with a BT puck and use BBMaps. So I can use Telenav or any other GPS app without a puck. Maybe caffeine finder will work even.

GPS will be in-built. No need for external Bluetooth GPS.

What other applications can use it with. The only thing I could think of is with my laptop.

and the IPAQ PDA, it can also be used with other phones that are BT capable. Most likely I will use it also with my razr V3i when I use it as that functions as my weekend phone.
