Default Sprint 8703e GPS Question - 12-18-2006, 01:31 AM

I have now used all the map programs (I believe) - Google Maps, Blackberry Maps, and TeleNav (in that order). TeleNav is my favorite, hands down - but is there a way to get free gps? I think there may be a way, but I'm not sure. See, when I downloaded BBMaps, ran it, and turned on GPS, I used it for about a day - without calling and asking for TeleNav (or GPS Service). I called the next day and asked if I would get charged for my GPS usage, and they were asking me why, saying that there was no usage charges... So my question is does BBMaps software do the GPS out of sprint (somehow)? or should I stop being a cheapskate and pay the $10/month TeleNav charge?

Sprint does not charge you for the GPS usage. They do charge for the unlimited Data plan which in this case is where the maps you see and the directions you get come from in BBmaps / Google maps and Telenav. The only thing that the GPS does is report your current position to which ever program you are running at the time (BBMaps or Telenav since Google does not yet support the GPS). I guess since Sprint is not involved in your Blackberry receiving info from the satellites that they do not charge you. As far as which program to use I prefer Telenav. It just seems much more reliable. One of my favorite parts of Telenav is the find business option which I have not found in BBMaps but I did find in Google maps.

I wouldn't go as far as saying you're being a cheap skate.
I just think you (like me) doesn't think a free GPS locator should be charged $10 for the greedy phone bureaucrats. It's like paying $3 per ring tone......when all you gotta do is search Ebay for ringtone software and and songs for dirt cheap in comparison. People are so frivilous and easy to bag for extra coin.

Keep searching for the free version, I have also been, but it's not a REAALY important feature I require. Like this one.

Or, you can search the forums and find out how to convert your mp3s into ringtones for free

Are you saying that there is no charge for using Telenav with Sprint?
I was told by their Cust. Service that it costs $10/mo.

I wonder if I got a cust. serv. rep that was new?

$39.95 for BB service and unlimited Telenav sounds good!!

Actually you don't pay Sprint. You're paying TeleNav for their software / service.

Its on my Sprint bill, but well worth the $ as I use it almost daily.
