Default Pearl GPS Tracking - 01-14-2007, 02:49 PM

Does anyone know what services are available to remotely track a blackberry pearl with a gps puck? Being in sales, I drive around a lot and I would LOVE to track where I go for millage expenses as well as being able to look at a map and see what areas I have covered.

The only thing I have found is MbizTrack but there is not very much detail given for it.

Thank your help!

not sure if telnav or wayfinder will do that, but my guess is no, or not practical enough for everyday business use. i would recommend using a laptop with M$ Streets and Trips 2007

Telenav is great, but I don't think it will do what he's looking for. A good ole pen and paper will do for your mileage as well as a speedometer reset on the miles traveled per location.

screw that! pen and paper! man its the 21st century! :D

my suggestion is a laptop with streets and trips 2007. its is AWESOME. It will track where you been, show you how much milage, cost of gas, projected cost of gas based on routes, everything really. ive been using blackberry maps with a cheap gps puck and its ok, but really only good for emergencies. you wont get lost but it wont tell you much else either. with streets and trips, its like having a $1500 gps dash-mount unit- but i only paid $400 for the laptop. i can also use the pearl's internet to let the laptop connect to windows live, which shows me satellite maps over my routes. now i just need a way to mount my laptop in my truck so it doesnt slide off the seat!

I understand what your saying but that kinda defeats the entire purpose of a BB.

I got a BB as I dont want to lug around a laptop and in fact to replace having to carry around a laptop.

blackberries are less-capable then even wm5 phones (which i think is your best bet if you want to run laptop-like programs on a phone) im sure though, eventually, either google maps w/gps or blackberry maps will include a tracking log, but for now there is no way i could go back to my blackberry for gps routing. bbmaps its nowhere near as useful as streets and trips, or the like

If they ever come out with an update to bbmaps, I'm sure it will be just as good as any gps software out there. I just hope they do something with it soon.

I use Wayfinder and it is pretty good for calculating routes and directing you by voice to your destination. There are a couple of bugs in it for Pearl users though. Support told me BB would be updating their software this spring to address it. They did not give specifics on the bug in the BB software.

Cool!! I love Telenav on my Pearl. It works flawlessly, but free always outweighs non-free for me when a free app does what it's supposed to do.

For those who use TeleNav with a Pearl, I have a few questions.

-Is the volume loud enough for use in a car?
-Does the screen remain illuminated while navigating?
-Do the Keyboard lights turn off while navigating (handy at night)?

thanks,

What about trying to track your kid where ever they go using their 8100 linked to a GPS device some how?

Has anyone encountered this situation with a spouse or ex?

You could try J2MEMap -- I haven't used it on my BB yet, but it worked great on my S60 devices when I was GPSing. You can set waypoints and record routes on top the map and save them -- they're even exportable to load into Google Earth and such.

J2MEMAP

Here is a sample (on-phone) image that's part of one of my blog posts, reviewing the BT-339 with a Nokia 6682; simple track I recorded on a bicycle ride. (*)

I haven't played with the GPS puck & the Pearl to any great extent yet...

Default J2MeMap - Help? - 04-26-2007, 09:37 PM

Anyone get this little app working?

J2MEMAP

Stinsondog?

I got an older version loaded on my 8800 (appears to be .808) but I can't seem to acquire satelittes. Its trying but I can't seem to get a lock. Anyone have any experience on how to get this little guy working?

The menu system also is ... interesting.

I've been looking for a little app that can access the 8800's GPS and make GPS Track Logs. Could this be it??

That has been released yesterday:

BlackBerryInsight » Software Review: MobileTracker for BlackBerry 8800 and BlackBerry 8830

Maybe not exactly what you are looking for but you can track your movement.

My take on the MobileTracker software is that it is half baked and free software accomplishes the same thing for no cost. Here are some of my issues with the Pearl:

Does not always start GPS when I hit start tracking
Stops tracking if you get into a tunnel with no warning that it has stopped
No display that it is actually working unless you enable the annoying feature to tell you when it has captured xxx tracks
No ability to change where the file will be stored
No distance is captured
No speed is captured

They need to do some work on this app before people really find it useful, it is as flaky as SPOT at this point and if SPOT is any indication of their speed at updating the software is any indication don't expect any new features any time soon.

Good luck to all.

Agreed with SIB. I'm requesting a refund on MobileTracker due to the fact it is non-functional at this point in time. I have no problem testing, or even paying, for beta software, but this is sold as released/production software.

For someone who does not use GPS a lot, is downloading Telenav and using it for the 9.95 a month worth it? Any other recommendations?

Does Google Maps have a GPS function for the Pearl and does it require a new download in order for it to take effect if Maps were added a few month ago to the Blackberry?
