Default Blackberry maps on Verizon 7130e

Please Login to Remove!

I have a 7130e running on the Verizon network. According to the About screen I am running version 4.1.0.268 of the OS (Platform 2.2.0.98). According to the Blackberry web site, Blackberry Maps requires version 4.1 or higher. Based on their statement it would appear I should be able to run it but when I go to the site and try to install it to my BB I get a message that it will not run on my device.

Has anyone else run into this problem and know how to get this to work?

Thanks,

David

David,

I don't know how to fix it but I have the exact same OS on my 7130e and it works fine. Good luck.

Steven:

Thanks for the quick response. After I posted the message I "played around" a little and discovered that you have to be using the default BB Browser for the application to load, so I've gotten that far. Now I am trying to get the Internal GPS to work but it seems to be unresponsive. I changed the GPS setting to Location Services but get no GPS activity. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with what I heard about VZW locking GPS on the phone. Do you have GPS working on your phone?

Verizon has disabled the internal GPS and, to my knowledge, there is no workaround. I researched this fairly extensively and until Verizon changes their Draconian policies you are SOL. There is a member in here, whom I can't remember offhand, who has started an online petition for Verizon to enable this feature. If you search some of the other Blackberry Maps threads, I'm sure you can find it. The link is in his signature. Good luck!

The petition is a sticky. Also see my GPS tips page at my tips site.

I can report the following: I can get Blackberry Maps to pair with my BT GPS and work on my 7130e after upgrading to Sprint's software rev (VZW is my carrier). I still can't get Telenav to pair with my BT GPS, however, which is a bummer.
