Well, if you go to Google Maps you can get the 8800-specific version of Google Maps. Sorry, no GPS support and I have noticed no difference between this and the 8700 version.

What version number is it? But I still think it's coming now that it is there for WM 5.

1.4.4 Downloaded and runing. But the intitial start up was very slow as well as the go to address.

For me, the download starts, but then fails. Is there anything different about this version than I would have by doing the 8700 download trick? Seems to be pointing to the same software version...

I don't know. The file is 10K larger, but I can't see the differences. Are you downloading OTA from Google Maps ?
