Default Telenav Questions - 02-28-2007, 01:09 PM

1. Can you play the turn by turn directions in a bluetooth headset?

2. Is there anything out there that will allow you to mount the 8800 on the dash where you can see the map while driving. I am currently holding the 8800 in one hand and looking down at the map. Hardly a safe driving situation. It would be great if the mount would also charge the phone.

1) No - it doesn't work via bluetooth headsets (as far as i can tell). Also, when in use, telenav disables or doesn't allow voice dialing to initialize so you can't do voice dialing unless you turn off telenav.

2) I just put my BB in the cup holder.

how about a plug and play external gps antenna(not receiver). even next to a massive window with clear sky views I can't get satelite detection. I can see how its going to work in my car...

I just got a car mount kit from BBerry accessories (can't post URL yet). It's an Arkon car mount kit...13 inch long gooseneck and suctions to the windshield. I can position exactly where I want. Works great...even though I don't have GPS on my 8700...I use it for quick access, muting calls, and voice directions using Infospace Find It which is a new piece of software I found in another thread. Much safer!

I am inside a tall building and got a lock on 4 satellites this am. Should be fine in a car, and mine has been so far.

It depends on how tall the bldg is and how close you are to the windows. I am on the 3rd floor of a 30 story building and I get 3 or 4 sattelites near the window. In my apartment on the top floor I get like 9 inside. This is what I got on high end Garmin Sirf 3 device.

NAXET...I found a car mount that charges at Gpsforless Ltd Pda accessories satellite navigation gps receivers at low cost prices - but still looking for something here in the US. I had a Garmin Ique that had a portable bean bag car mount that charged at the same time and it was awesome. Let me know if anyone finds something similar. TY

Yes, and I am convinced you will not have problems in a car outside off downtown areas.

Any opinions on the car mounts on ebay listed for the pearl? Looks like they would fit the 8800. There seem to be two kind, vent clip and suction cups. The main criteria is should be securment. Sorry can't post links yet.

Login to telenav website and setup a trial or purchase, then you get to choose your 4 digit pin.

Go to the top of one of those buildings. Don't think it will work at least the first time walking the streets in NYC. Also hold the device away from your body. Mine works 22 floors up inside a bldg in SF.

Default ok but - 03-05-2007, 01:12 PM

stood out on my deck and the 8800 picked up a signal. testing the route guidance on the way to the airport and it worked well enough. flew to london, and tested the device: picked up gps coordinates, but Telenav seemed to freeze while loading teh maps....

For telenav, the 4 digit PIN is usually the last 4 digits of your phone number. However, for Cingular, there is a charge for Telenav...$4.99/month for 10 responses, or $9.99/month for unlimited Telenav responses. You may have to sign up for that service before you can fully use the system. Something to look into.

bauerb,
I was in a car in midtown yesterday (42nd Street) and had no trouble picking up a signal. Last week I was driving through Queens and the Bronx and had a signal but wasn't crazy about the accuracy of TeleNav in pinpointing my location.

Yesterday it took about 5-10 seconds to resync when I got out of the Lincoln Tunnel in NYC. I'll be there this week, have meetings uptown and downtown all week and will let you know if I have problems picking up a signal.

Regards-Michael G.
