Default Can not get 8703 GPS to aquire - 04-04-2007, 12:11 AM

Hey everyone. I am a brand new owner of a BB 8703.

I have downloaded the BB Maps program and it failes to aquire a GPS lock
after clicking "start GPS" in BB Maps.

I have checked all of the following:

1) Enabled GPS in the "location based services"

2) Outside in wide open space standing still (for a long time)

3) Have a data plan that works

4) I did click start GPS in BB Maps

5) I do have the icon displayed on the BB desktop that indicates
location based services are turned on.

6) I am with a regional carrier (Cellular South) that does not limit GPS
functionality.

7) My phone is in 1X mode.

I have read of some other Alltel users having this problem. It seemed that some had it and some did not.

Any suggestions?

Thanks much!

Default Anyone? This is what BB tech support says.... - 04-08-2007, 10:05 PM

Anyone have any feedback on the above question?

I paid for Blackberry Tech support. I asked why it (the built in GPS) would work for Alltel customers using Telenav but not for me using Blackberry Maps.
My carrier does NOT block the GPS function. I have it turned on under "location based services". It never aquires location.

This was their (BB tech supports) response:

"The 8703e uses A-GPS (assisted GPS).
What Alltel has done is unlock the need to have the puck for their code- this enables their users to pay for service via TeleNav support. This is only done by the carrier."

Does this sound legetimate to anyone?

Thanks!

I do know there is integration between the carriers and the service, but not sure what or how. Maybe I can ask one of my contacts.

Default Thanks! - 04-09-2007, 08:24 AM

That would be much appreciated. I have tried 3 different GPS apps and none of them work.

Thanks much!

The only way alltel has the gps enabled is with telenav. BB maps is a no-go.
