Default GPS receiver can be added to the pearl - 04-23-2007, 10:44 AM

I'm not sure if someone had started a thread about this but I figured I'd post it anyway. Just doing some browsing and found out the this website TeleNav - Always find your way! will let you add a GPS software into your pearl and for $99 you get the software and the receiver. I wonder if this is a great buy?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

It's a good buy, but if you want to save some money, buy your gps receiver from ebay. Holux makes one of the better receivers, but there are others as well. Telenav all in all is great. No complaints here.

This is the best site hands down related to GPS and the BB. Very comprehensive breakdown of each program. I have Telenav and it works great (with Globalsat 359).

i was eyeballing the globsat myself....so if i decide to get navigation i have some questions: how smooth is the telenav interface (when installed on the phone) ? is it turn-by-turn directions ? can i store locations for home/recent places/store current location ?
also, is it a subscription service or a one-time pay up ?

about the receiver, i noticed blackberry is coming out with it'sUSGlobesat version, would it be better to buy that rather than the one USGlobesat has available noe ? it'll be cool to find a place to mount it in my car, but i have another GPS antenna in the car as well, i think i should keep them seperated by at least 4-5 feet.

Yes, turn by turn, and yes you can store locations, and yes its a subscription per month.

Many GPS receivers will work. You can see my tips page for a complete review of the various GPS apps. Not sure about the separation question.

there are other turn-by-turn options as well right, not just telenav ?

i'll look into mulitple gps recievers and proximity of placement.

I got a Holux GPSlim240 yesterday and did alot of driving with it today. It pairs great with both my Blackberry and my Nokia 770 (if only those two paired great with each other, but that's a different story).
