Confirmed: It still doesn't work. I think it is TeleNav's fault and I want them to get version 5.1 ready for 8100. I'm going to call and cancel my subscription until they do.

Thanks!

i just got the gps reciever in the mail the other day and had a chance to try the service.....it's nice, but for me i don't think the $ 10/mo is worth navigation without live traffic info and reroute capability.

is this what v5.1 offers ?

i guess i'll let it ride out the trial and cancel it.....until 5.1 is available for the pearl. telenav says it's something to do with the hardware that limits traffic info reception to the 8800. is this true ?

with car stereos, you pay for the deck and nav hardware and you're not bound to monthly payments....

sakman74 - yes, v5.1 gives you traffic and automatic reroute. The interface is also nicer. The version for T-Mobile already runs on the 8800 and, if you have upgraded the OS in the Cingular 8800 you can use the T-Mobile version of TeleNav.

I've been stuck in my office the last two weeks working on a project so I haven't had a chance to really use the software. I have put in my destination and origin and looked at the route it would calculate. Then I'd look at traffic.com or google maps to compare and the TeleNav seemed to have more information. Accuracy will have to wait until I can actually try it. I was very disappointed with Garmin's XM traffic re-route, the information was inconsistent and many times inaccurate.

One other comment, the downloads seem much slower.

Regards-Michael G.

I have the Cingular 8800 and upgraded to the latest Rogers OS, but the attempted download of the TM 5.1 failed.
Do I have to remove 4.7?
Thanks!

rdinterman I remember I had problems getting it to load too. If I only wrote down what I did!

I believe I had to remove 4.7, reboot and then load 5.1. I was getting something like a cod file error. In addition ot the Rodgers OS I used jibi's posted modified alx and ptt files.

I deleted 4.7, then reloaded 5.1 and it works great!
Thanks!

Upgrading the OS is easy if you follow the directions shown here:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...ry-device.html

John Clark wrote up easy to follow instructions and jibi uploaded all the modified files.

GREAT - is how I describe the new TeleNav GUI . . . . it's a lot quicker too! I am on the new Roger's .90 OS and it works like a charm. All features are working and plus I'm on Cingular=AT&T network. . . so experienced no issues. . . thanks all of you for the info. . . . . .

Ok so I got TeleNav running, but how do I know what my password/pin is? I'm just trying to use the 60 day trial. I put in my cell phone number and e-mail address and I never had a PIN/Password sent to me?

It is not working on Rogers. It asks for the PIN, and there is no way to register Rogers on Telenav's site to get a PIN.

same problem here.
i contacted Rogers Data support and they actually said to me they never heard of the Telenav program and were sure that it wasn't sold by Rogers!
i left the phone conversation in frustration and the man on the line was smugly sure he was right.

I posted this in a different thread on the subject as well, but here seems like a more appropriate place.

FWIW, I didn't need to upgrade to the Rogers OS to get this to work. I am still running the stock Cingular v.4.2.1.72 (Platform 2.3.0.54) on my 8800 and TeleNav v. 5.1 installed and works just fine on my device....

I went to TeleNav

Works swimmingly. The upgrades are not insignificant. The incorporation of traffic info is huge, but minor changes (like the addition of an ETA) are also very nice. I'd still like to see a compass added to the navigation screen, but what'cha gonna do?

Someone else mentioned that you could tell it to avoid certain roads and/or route segments, but I can't figure out how to do that. That sort of a "detour" function would be awesome!

Finally, someone else was looking for a good car mount (I believe, the technical term was "suction cup thingy"). I use the Bury Technologies found here: Amazon.com: Bury Technologies Comfort Cradle for RIM Blackberry 8800: Cell Phones & Service I had someone "hardwire" it to the car, so the power cord runs back through the dash. It works great!

Problem resolved.
Go to the telenav site, sign in, and tell them you forgot your password - and it'll be sent to you. they have your rogers subscription and details centralized there!
(you would have think rogers could have just told me this.)
it's still cheaper i think to buy it from rogers directly than from telenav - our dollar is still a little weaker.
