Default GPS Puck Compatibility - 05-24-2007, 12:04 PM

Does anyone know specifically what BB requires from a GPS puck, such as what version of NMEA? I just got a Wintec WBT-201 Data Logger and can't get any of the apps to work with it. I wanted a data logger to get GPS tracks during bike rides, etc., but I couldn't find any mention of one in this forum.

The device pairs up via BT with my BB Pearl and shows up as an "SPP Slave". I have tried BBmaps 1.0.61 and 1.1.32, GoogleMaps 1.5.2, and SPOT 1.4.1 with not much luck. BBmaps connected to the device and will sometimes get as far as showing the location, but within seconds, it reports "Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_lbs is not responding."

I've tried all combinations of uninstalling and reloading the applications to no avail. I also tried disabling the BT encryption in the options since that seemed to help one person. I have not tried upgrading the OS. I am currently on Cingular 4.2.0.71, but might try the Rogers 4.2.1 if anyone thinks it might help. Also, should something show up in the Options / Location Based Services? It's blank for me and there are no options to add or change anything.

I've also tried changing parameters on the puck itself. It supports NMEA 2.3 and 2.1. Looks like most of the compatible pucks are NMEA 2.2 - is there that much of a difference?

If we can't get this to work, does anyone know of a GPS data logger that is compatible?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Default BB Maps exception - 06-22-2007, 07:48 PM

I get the same error with my Perl. The error is "Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_lbs (152) is not responding; process terminated". I downloaded the latest Google Maps (1.5.3) and that works.

Google has some drawbacks so I would like to go back to BB Maps if it can be fixed.
