But it won't work without a data plan. No maps, no search.....why have it on the BB? It won't do anything.

That is false. You can use google maps without having the blackberry data plan. As long as you have internet connectivity you can use it. I have Sprint PV and no BB data plan and I can use Google Maps just fine.

If your pearl has "gprs" sign at least, you can use Google Maps with no problem.

Note that I didn't specify "BB" data plan. You still need at least a gprs cell phone data plan. Keep in mind that a standard cell phone data plan won't work in all cases, either.

is there no bb data in southeast asia? its a shame to have a bb without a bb data plan.

Is there any GPS software that will work wihout a Data plan? I don't have a Data plan with my 8800 but I still want to use GPS, can I download maps to my SD card? Thanks.
