Default Blackberry Maps on Curve?? - 06-01-2007, 05:33 PM

Anyone got it on theirs or did AT&T/Cingular leave them out as they did on the 8800?

No BB Maps. I have Telenav and it installed fine, but it is a pay service. I like BB Maps b/c it is free.

why don't you just use google maps. It's the best mapping program for free.

yea the only reason for bbmaps initially was it supported the internal gps on the 8800. Once google maps supported that and now with the 8300 it doesn't even matter then yes google maps blows away bb maps.

TeleNav is free as long as you don't use the premium features right?

I might be wrong, in fact I probably am, but I thought that anyone using. 4.1 or 4.2 could download blackberry maps to their BB.

BlackBerry - MAPS

which takes you here

Well,
This might be an old message on Blackberry.com. I have downloaded (or rather installed while connected to blackberry and a usb cable) several times. It worked fine.

You need to use Microsoft exploder for it to work. It did not like Firefox.

The reason BlackBerry Maps isn't "available" on AT&T devices is because AT&T requested it that way. AT&T has a contract with Telenav, and in order to get more sales with Telenav, AT&T requested RIM not allow BlackBerry Maps to install on the device. There is a way to do it, but its a work-around. I'll search the forums and see if I can find the instructions.

bbmaps works fine on at&t, they do not support it however. I use both as for me bbmaps is more reliable as googlemaps sometimes drops out and stops tracking. however the points of interest feature of google maps is great, and i use it most of the time.

Telenav is by no means free, they have a trial period and then it is 9.99/month, however I do think that it is a great product as it is reliable and does a great job with voice guided directions.

Another to try is mapquest navigator, although i think its not free but It works well in my experience -alot like telenav.

PS- you dont need a workaround anymore, it works fine if you use the download link listed above.

All good points.

And yes, BB Maps should download no problem even if you are a ATT phone.

I had google maps working fine with GPS on my 8100 but the GPS function on the 8300 isn't there. Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?

Workaround is apparently you just go ahead and download it from RIM. I am doing that right now, and will report back if I get some weird message using BB Maps on my Curve.

yes, it works fine.

AT&T users: If you download the BBMaps from RIM do you have two versions installed? There is already a version installed on the AT&T BB's it's just that the icon is hidden. You need to edit the LBS.alx file in order to show it.

Google Maps 1.6.1 is now working with Bluetooth GPS. It seems Google has fixed it.

Whoa, didn't know that. I just went ahead and installed it, and it is now under "applications" menu with AT&T theme. Is there any problems having two versions installed, if in fact there is already one installed and hidden?
