Default Turn gps off? battery drain - 06-17-2007, 06:40 AM

8800, BES, with google mobile maps (gmm).

It seems that if you start the maps and either switch to another application, or even exit maps correctly, the gps function continues to try to keep track of your location. Even when your indoors, or in a place with limited cell phone signal. This quickly drains the battery

It seems that if you pull the battery and reboot, and don't restart gmm, you don't start up the gps function, and the battery isn't effected.

Is there some way, without pulling the battery, to tell the BB to stop gps monitoring?

How about stopping/quitting Google Maps? after you quit the application (not switch) the GPS should turn off.

Hope this helps. And if I've given wrong info, please let me know.

This certainly isn't scientific, but it seems that even if I quit the application the battery still drains much faster than if I pull the battery and NEVER start the application. Or, if I delete the app and just download it the occasional times I really need it
