I have been using Yahoo Go! on my 8800 for the last week or so. In addition to being a nice portal adapted for the phone screen, the mapping widget works very well and handles the GPS better than either Google Maps or Blackberry Maps. And it integrates with the Yahoo Maps on the server to use your stored locations. Is anyone else using this for mapping?

I've used it and like it, but I've noticed battery drain when using Yahoo-GO as opposed to BB Maps or Google Maps. I expect with the GPS running, the battery would be consumed faster than with GPS off, but Yahoo seems to be a bigger hit on the battery for some reason.

Anyone else notice this, or am I just losing it

I find using the GPS a drain on the battery no matter what I use. Maybe its because Y! Go seems to update better with the GPS, so more refreshes=bigger battery drain?

really like this app, use it not for all gps.
I think the yahoo go program uses more battery than the others, thats my guess. I think the GPS itself uses the same for all app and the data must be close so my guess is that its the app. I havent really noticed that it uses that much but will have to pay more attention.

I have been using the 8800's GPS feature alot because it (the 8800) is a new toy to me. ;^)

Quickly I noticed that I prefer Google Maps ('GM') because of the ability to switch to and from satellite view and its superior ability with finding places and routing direction. Plus I am comfortable with it from using it on my old 7100t.

I have noticed that GM has GPS signal issues (no position info) unless I first start BBMaps. After probably 15 minutes, Google Maps will lose GPS signal or position info. I have to swap back into BBMaps and stop then start the GPS, get back into GM and it immediately and without problems has position info again.

It makes me think that there is a powersave feature that cuts off the GPS circuits after a certain period of time, possible related to if BBMaps is on screen. In any event, there is only two ways I know to interact with the GPS circuitry: BBMaps 'start/stop GPS' and the Options\GPS Settings\UpdateInfo.

*Attn developers:* It would be nice to have software on the 8800 to manage more parameters of the GPS, mark waypoints/POI, and see tracks/paths/elevation data... Just like the BIM training log software available through RoadRunnerSports for other GPS phones

Where is the widget that you mention in the first post.

I want to use the mapping in Yahoo Go, and want the saved locations from My Yahoo to show up on the BB.

Is this what the widget does?

Does anyone know of a shortcut in Yahoo Go Maps that will zoom in and out without having to go to the menu? Within BB and GMM I can use the I and O keys to quickly zoom in and out.

Can anyone get the maps to display on an 8830 (Bell Mobility in Toronto). I have tired everything to get this to work and it just sits there. The gps works just cant see the maps.

I just installed on my 8800 yesterday and like the app, but I'd really like to turn the GPS off when I don't want it on and can't figure that out. Anyone have any idea (short of just restoring all original settings)? My initial impression is that the GPS stays on even when the program's been exited (as opposed to minimized).

In Blackberry Maps, you can use Option > Stop GPS. In Google Maps, exiting the application shuts down the GPS. Before I had Yahoo! Go, if I was out out both BB Maps and Google Maps, if I went to Advanced Options > GPS and did a refresh, it would return a null answer, meaning the GPS was not active. Now if I've exited Yahoo! Go and don't have either BB Maps or Google Maps running, I still get a location on the GPS.

Does anyone know how to toggle the GPS in Yahoo! Go? How to stop it within the application? Otherwise how to stop GPS functionality altogether on the device?

Does yahoo have a seperate map app? Or you have to use yahoo Go and all that bloated software you can't customize very well.

I just downloaded Yahoo Go. Had big problems picking up my gps puck signal - of and on... nice free little map application if it worked. (I have read others find it works with a puck..)

Has anyone else on gps puck had better luck?
