Default GPS question - 07-07-2007, 07:09 PM

Ok, it has been several attempt to make the GPS follow me. Thus far, I can only make it find my location. I tried it with Goole map and infospacefindit, but I cannot make the GPS to follow me as I go through the streets.

Is this the way it should work?

Google maps should follow you. Make sure you have the latest version of google maps. Other than that I don't think I had to do much after I selected my GPS device in GMaps.

With Google, say, what exactly do you see (or not see) after you get a lock and see your position, and then start moving? The simplest answer would be the gps or the BB is losing contact. Have you tried in an open area where you have a clear view of the sky and a good cell signal?

I just used GM very successfully walking around NYC for 5 days. In a very few spots it lost the view of the birds, but I was surprised how well it worked in most area given the reports on the forum from people in NYC.

I just downloaded Google map a few days ago, so I think I got the latest.

I basically start Google map. The GPS then updates my location.
Once it found my location I press '0' to get to my location (blue circle). I can use the track ball to pan any direction I want.
So, I start walking/driving, but I notice that the blue circle is still at where I was.

am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

For what it's worth, the very first time I started using the version of google maps with the gps function, the maps stayed fixed and my position marker moved. When I would move out of map view, I would scroll the map. After a few times of that, the position marker stayed center screen and the map begain scolling as I moved. From then on that is the way it has worked. Go figure.....But from what you are saying, you get the blinking blue circle marking your position, and when you move there is no change. Correct? How much have you played with it? How far have you moved, and how much time have you given the application to update before giving up? From what you say I can't see any other explaination, so long as the gps has contact with the satellites and google maps is getting updates from the server.

To tell you the truth, I have not played much with it. I was driving and try to do this at the same time. I didn't see the may moved or the blue circle moved. I haven't gotten any chance to do it without driving. I will try it again today and let my wife to drive this time. I will let you know soon.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Sometimes for me the application will hang and not show movement for awhile. Maybe your luck was to see that happen right off. My advice is play with it some more. If no improvement, I would try the usual stuff--reboot; pull battery; delete and reinstall.

Sage advice. It's not the best at following you but it eventually learns

I went around and it does works! However, after 2 to 3 minutes, it hangs where the blue circle no longer moved. I tried it 10 times and the problem presisted. HELP!

I uninstalled Google Map and re-install Yahoo Go and it works much better.

Thanks all!
