Do you mean to get the position from the current cell phone tower you're connected to?

I'd love to add that, when someone tells me a (portable) way to achieve that. I know Google Maps does it, but they have a slightly bigger budget for research and paying mobile phone producers for this kind of information than I have (hint: my budget is pretty near 0$).

does it work with the pearl with software v4.5.0.37? and can you track the phone from your computer like a lojack sort of thing?

Why don't you try it and tell me? It should work. It works on my 8800 with the 4.5 OS.

Not yet. It only stores the tracks locally.

I just walked a 5 mile loop. 5 second intervals.

When I stopped the track, the hour glass popped up and stayed there for about 5 or more minutes. I could not escape out of it. Finally, the hourglass cleared and I went to view the track list - the hour glass popped up again and I finally had to pull the battery (not easy when trapped in an otterbox.)

version 051. Well, I just upgraded to the newest version.

Question: I searched and I see that the PERMISSIONS issue can be "fixed" by tweaking the firewall setting.

Does anyone know what that firewall setting affects on the BB, such as the Browser or email or what????

I'm using just fine on my 8800, running 4.5.0.42.

Only issues I have is that I get prompted for accessing local content every time I access a track, or do an export.

Will you be adding support for the 8330 at any point? I checked the website and that model isn't listed (yet).

First of all: the fact that some model isn't listed in that list only means that I didn't get a report of that model yet.

And the number of reports is FAR smaller than the number of downloads, so chances are that someone is already using it on a BB 8330.

All modern BlackBerrys (OS 4.2 and up) can run bbTracker, so feel free to try it.

Also, I hope that I can find some time for bbTracker in the near future (yes, I know that I said something about a release "around next week" several weeks ago).

I apologize. I should have gone ahead and tried it on my device first.

What prompted the question was that I have been told that Alltel has locked down the GPS on the 8330 in a similar manner to Verizon, limiting it's use to the bundled software: TeleNav and Blackberry Maps.

I will attempt to use bbTracker and report back.

Edit - Scratch what I said. It seems to be working suddenly. I'm not sure what changed.

So does this program work with a freedom keychain GPS receiver? When I search for the GPS device, it seems to find it just fine, but when I go to select it I get an error message;

Verizon doesn't allow any third party applications to use GPS on their BlackBerry phones. There's nothing I can do about it.

Also: I'm aware that another update is long overdue, but I don't find enough time for personal reasons. I won't promise any specific date, but I'll try to find some time eventually.

I just installed mine yesterday and while I was riding my bike home, periodically my office called to give me updates and it appeared that the system took a long time to update my position.

In settings I selected GPS Update Interval 30 seconds and update my position when it changes 10 meters.

Are there faster/better setttings to have a speedier update on the computer?

This is an excellent app!

I had arrived early for a drive with my car club and kinda wanted something like this so I did an OTA install, set it up and started tracking. Just exported to KML format and opened it up in Google Earth and I have to say I am very impressed! It will be useful for keeping track of the fun twisty roads just outside of Houston.

I am getting the annoying "Would you like to allow this?" prompts even with the firewall enabled but considering it's a free app it's a small price to pay IMO.
