I've tried everything else suggested on this site to try to get BB Maps to work, but to no avail. There must be some way to foil AT&T and re-gain access to RIM's great BB Maps program, right?!
I have 4.5.0.124 and the Blackberry Maps Version LBS1.2 described in this thread. Here is how I managed to do it.
1. I upgraded and selected to remove the bb Maps version that come with the upgrade.
2. Then I loaded the bb Maps Version LBS1.2 using Desktop Manager.

Observations
A. Please note that every time I connect to the Desktop Manager it offers to upgrade my Maps. I just ignore it but its annoying.
B. I also checked out the current BB Maps version from a friend and I like it very much it has a more user friendly search, I however I cant afford it coz here the blackberry service (its a new service on my carrier Mozambique cellular) goes for around US$30.00/month equivalent.

If u check your "Options-Advanced Options-Applications" do you only have BlackBerry Maps LBS1.2 or you also have BlackBerry Maps 4.5.x? You should only have the LBS1.2 version.
I had to avoid the 4.5.x version from automatically loading by disconnecting from the internet during the Desktop Manager installation of version LBS1.2.
I have an 8300, would have thot this works for all 83xx models.

Try it and let us also know if it works for u.
It sure did work on my 8300 v4.5.0.124 (Platform 2.7.0.92).
I am now using the Blackberry Maps Version LBS1.2. If it doesnt work you just unistall the Blackberry Maps Version LBS1.2 and re-update to get your default Maps version back.

I don't know if this is a first, but our carrier fixed the BB Maps problem, they and RIM we're consulting this, and now they provide correct service books for BB Maps.

So actually, i'm using the new version of bb maps.

Just a hunch, but something tells me that AT&T would never consult with RIM to allow BBMaps when they can sell TeleNav for $9.99 per month.

That probably is the case why BB maps aren't working on AT&T.

And also ... our carrier sells their modified version of WayFinder Navigator for 7,5€ per month.

Two questions for all. With Google Maps with Latitude why do people want BB maps? Just curious.

Workaround - open a BBM conversation. Have someone send you their location. You can launch BBM from their. Yes PIA cause you have to have that link so to speak which means leaving the convo.

For the first question I need BB Maps because in Africa for at least these countries (za, mz, zw, sz) Google Maps only searches for locations but does not give directions from any point A to any point B even if both points are on a road found in Google Maps. BB Maps gives directions from any Point A to B if both points are near any road in BB Maps.

I can get the maps of an area I am going to ahead of time and then do not need Cell service to use them.

Example: I was going to Europe for a week. Did not want to pay Roaming/International Data charges, and did not need the Phone service. I zoomed into all the areas I was going to be, and BBmaps downloaded all those maps. The maps were then available with the Radio, Wifi, etc turned OFF.

Ok I'm not your average idiot. But I have tried everything and nothing is working. I have aCurve 8310 with AT&T. I had BB Maps on a previous one and it worked fine. AT&T sent me a replacement unit for warranty. And the maps were gone. I backed it up and no icon. But it did show in the applications, good almost. But I am not able to get the icon on the desktop or use it. I tried downloaded on my phone but it says. My operating system is not compatable with. I am running 4.5.0.110 and the maps in applications is 4.5.0. I have tried going into the program files etc, etc lbs. But when I search for the vendor info there is none. I could not find anything that resembles the info previously given about AT&T and 102. My Loader file is 8310-v4.5.0.110-p2.7.0.90. The vendor info just doesnt seem to be there. Doesn anyone have any idea what to do to get the use of blackberry maps? Because I refuse under any circumstances to pay AT&T for Telemavs or another dimes for anything.

BB Maps requires a service book under OS 4.5. On 4.2 it did not. ATT does not send the service book for BB Maps. That's why it doesn't show up any more. It seems like there are some threads about loading the old version of BB Maps but I don't know where off hand. Have to search around.

Easy procedure. Delete the Blackberry Maps service book from your device. Download a version of 4.2 for your device and install to your PC. Extract the net_rim_bb_lbs_*****.cod modules from the 4.2 Java directory. Delete The 4.5 net_rim_bb_lbs_*****.cod modules from your device and load the 4.2 lbs modules to your device.

Could there be a service book that will show the bb Maps as there is for a bb Browser described here: Blackberry Links of Interest ‎(Blackberry Tips & Tricks from the Mods)‎

Wirelessly posted

Hi reborn30,
Follow Raptor464's post to get an older BB Maps version working ie if you have the same AT&T situation. I also used the same method and now I have BB Maps working - the old version of course, I don't have AT&T tho.
Raptor464's post is the third post before yours - reborn30.

As your carrier (in your profile) is "orage", which is not AT&T, please report problem to your carrier "orage" asking them to resend you Service Books. I hope this helps.
