Default Tracking GPS - 08-22-2007, 11:05 AM

I wanted to know if there is anything I can put on my black to track where it is at all times...so if I let my girlfriend use it and he misplaces it I can just view something on the computer to find out exactly where it is??

Current Pearl doesn't have GPS. And i dont not think their is any app to do what your asking. I know other devices definitely do have that capability.

yes, it is called BBTracker. It is NOT the same as the one you see here in Aftermarket Software section, which tracks your movement on the BB.

It is this:

Bbtracker won't let you track it remotely. Only the devices with built in GPS and on a BES can do that. And even then only the BES admin can see where it it.

after registering. it allows me to track my own 8800 either live tracking or over a defined time period. Also is allows "friends" to allow others to track them, so i can look for a name of someone registered and they can allow me to track them and vise versa. Very cool app and good interface, uses google maps to do it. I'm on BIS, 4.2 8800 and everything seems to work well.

Does this work with the Verizon 8830? The reason I ask is that VZW has locked out the GPS on that device.

Won't work on Verizon. As you have stated, Verizon has locked out the GPS.

PS - looking for "friends" to track on this.

Ok the live tracking seems to work great. The tracking history seems to have some problems with mapping. It shows that I have gone 17 miles but only shows points within like 50 yards from first location.

I drive for a living and know that the mileage on the history is no place near correct. Also I think that you will find that the time on history is not correct either. The developer is aware of the problems with it and will work them out.

Yeah i noticed about the time too but its good to see him on here explaining the app and im sure it will get updated to fix some of the bugs.

jsanders, im sure the app maker on the other thread can help out with the username.

I've noticed that the history tracking does become a little cumbersome to use as you have to find the time you are interested in the list then scroll back up to the map to see the location. This presents a couple of problems in my case:
  1. My tracking is set for 45 seconds or 1 minute updates. In an 8 hour shift on the road this can create close to 500 entries.
  2. I'm using this application in a taxi right now so I am operating is a somewhat confined area. When doing history you might get 4 or 5 readings on the map in the same neighborhood but there is no way to click on them and get the time it was spotted there.

That might be tough, he has to use google maps to show the points but he might be able to use a bubble above the place marker to show time and date.
Also select multiple times to show on the map so you get a map showing multiple points with times listed above them.

That's what I was thinking. I remember there was a program out there a few months ago I think was called followme.ca that did just that and it also gave you a "breadcrumb" trail when you looked at history.

Lost signal / had problem!

Last night I was running the program and then parked under a building for about 30 minutes so my BB could not get a GPS fix. When I came out of the building I started Telenav to get directions to my destination but Telenav could not get my location. When I checked BBTracker I noticed it had not updated my location in about 30 minutes.

I had to exit out of BBTracker and Telenav and restart both applications. It appears that if the BBTracker looses the signal for any length of time it locks up the GPS.

Default Is the server going to be open source? - 08-23-2007, 12:02 PM

Hi,

I have a linux server and a w2k3 server running at my home. Can I get the server side code to set up a personal (private) system?

I've been wondering when someone would have the time and talent to do this!

Yes, a home version of this would be great. I'd be willing to pay for it.
