Default What is GPS like out of the box? - 08-30-2007, 08:29 PM

Hi all,

I have no idea and cannot find any solid guides to out-of-the-box GPS on handsets like the 8800 or the (soon) 8310.

Can you give me a run-down on what to expect and what not to expect from the GPS? I.e. does it do postcode searches, is it very slow and clunky, what is the interface like, if it is really poor then what is the most popular alternative etc

Thank you in advanced

GPS doesn't do anything on it's own. It simply works with apps like BBMaps and Google Maps to pinpoint your location on a map.

So no tom-tom like navigation (i.e. "Take me here.")?

There is nothing "out of the box" for that. You have to purchase a 3rd party application. The link that aiharkness provided will give you an idea of some of the applications for GPS out there.

*Thanks aiharkness!

Yep...another good app.

Google Maps works in Europe, I think BBMaps works in Europe and I believe there is a version of TeleNav for Europe. I'm not sure if InfoSpace works in Europe or not.
