Default Nokia 5610 - is it a brick? - 04-17-2009, 05:53 PM

Hoping someone here will be able to help me out here. My son has a 5610, he managed to lose it outside for a week until I found it. I replaced the screen on it and it was good to go (not bad, eh?). Then the slider broke - actually, it was already broken the first time I took it apart - and I replaced that.

After reassembly this last time, it won't power up. If it's plugged in, I get a blue screen and a symbol that looks like it's charging, but it goes away as soon as it is unplugged, and never gets beyond that screen. I tried disassemble/reassemble a couple of times, checking all connections, but no dice. I have searched for an answer but found nothing close to this posted anywhere.

I see my options here as 1) send it to Nokia and hope they can do something (no warranty of course), or 2) consider it bricked and sell it as spare parts.

Any advice or better places to look would be appreciated. Thanks!

If it was outside for a week, especially if it was exposed to moisture, I think it may be done.

1st Step in Troubleshooting: Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan?
2nd Step in Troubleshooting: Pull the Battery.

It's done, and it's time to let your son buy his own phone. Maybe he'll take care of it if it is bought with his own hard-earned money.

Sorry I wasn't clear...there was about 2 months between the screen replacement and the slider replacement, during which the phone worked fine. It was definitely exposed to moisture during that time, I couldn't believe it still worked. Certainly possible that is what eventually did it in though, hard to say.

We'll see, the kid (my stepson, actually) seems pathologically incapable of keeping a phone for more than 6 months without losing/breaking it. When I upgraded to a family plan, I added him on, but he paid for the phone and is paying for the monthly charges, including the international texting. He also paid for the new parts for this phone. I was opposed to this Nokia, which was a gift, but mom won that battle. At least the current one has a warranty!

Thanks for the responses, and if anyone else has thoughts let me know!
